The 10 Wise Men are the Ultimate enemies from popular RPG, Star Ocean: The Second Story/Second Evolution. They are, in short, a group of magicakally enhanced Nedians whose primary goal is to rule/destroy the universe.
They were created by genius Dr. Lantis, who in fact is partly integrated into the leader of the men, Indalecio/Gabriel. When the project first started, Lantis was instructed to create these super beings to help planet Nede maintain its control of the surrounding planets, but Nedian factions against this action managed to kill Filia/Feria, causing Lantis to go frantic with anger and despair. He reprogrammed the existing Wise Men to destroy the universe and uploaded part of his conscious into a final Wise Man, Indalecio. To prevent the destruction, the Nedian forces eventaully sealed away The Wise Men into an Eternity Space, a place of no return; however they managed to escape somehow and resumed their plans once more.
There are 10 Wise Men in all (duh?), so I'll introduce briefly each of them and their orientation as they make up the group.
1. Indalecio (Gabriel) - The leader of the 10. He's the redheaded scholarly one who you fight as the final boss of the game. He has Lantis' spirit within him. His main objective is to destroy the universe if he cannot make it solely his. He uses advanced magick/heraldry to attack.
2. Cyril (Lucifer) - The second-in-command. He was once the leader of the 10 before Indalecio came along and ruined that dream of being the number one. Now he seethes in hatred and plots to kill Indalecio and rule the universe for himself. Most of his attacks deal with the element of 'wind.'
3. Decus (Michael) - This hotheaded Wise Man is the 'Strategist' and controls the weapon-like Wise Men under him (Marsilio, Berle, and Shigeo). He is loud-mouthed and loves to scream out his attacks whilst gloating about his power. Decus controls the element of 'fire' and his favourite attack is 'Spicule!'. He is never seen without his best friend and partner, Vesper, who seems to keep him in check most of the time.
4. Vesper (Haniel) - Calm, but powerful, Vesper accompanies his friend Decus on the battlefield. He uses rocket launchers and jet pack boosters built into his modified body to help him devastate his foes. He loves 'Mind Blast', a powerful beam that can cause one to become 'stoned' and rendering them useless in battle. He is the Wise Men's civilian control agent, and master of Ruprecht, Nicolus, and Jibril.
5. Ruprecht (Zadkiel) - He always squints his eyes and asks questions. Ruprecht uses a tuning fork as a weapon and can cast status boosting magick to help his friends (Nicolus and Jibril). He seems to have a close student/teacher relationship with Nicolus and mainly talks to him in the game cutscenes. Some people tend to draw him much younger looking than he actually appears to be. Ruprecht is an Information Gathering Agent, along with Nicolus.
6. Nicolus (Camael) - The oldest of the Wise Men has multiple eyes around his head and on the palms of his hands. He wears a visor. He is constantly enlightening the other Wise Men (especially Ruprecht) on various situations and tends to have a wide knowledge base and a desire to talk about his knowledge. He is an Information Gathering Agent along with Ruprecht. In battle he can shoot beams from his eyes.
7. Jibril (Raphael) - The very quiet one, Jibril hardly speaks even though he is the Wise Men than informs the others of various situations after he collects and analyzes the data brough in by partners Ruprecht and Nicolus. Jibril's true figure is never seen in the game, always hidden in his cloak. However, he can open his cloak, revealing a space of void inside him, in which he can suck people in to damage them.
8. Berle (Metatron) - Berle weilds unimaginable defense, making him the group's Defense Weapon. He is protected by strong armour and shields, and can also fight well with his sword. His helmet and attire make many say he looks like 'robocop' (I agree). He seems to have a firm sense of justice and a mature and sometimes poetic way of speaking.
9. Shigeo (Jophiel) - This robotic, agile Wise Men likes to have fun by torturing his victims. He is one of the only ones who seem to simply take pleasure in killing rather than having a well-fought even-matched battle. He is the Long-Range weapon of the Wise Men, using beams and calling fire from the sky with 'Infringement' to attack his foes anywhere on the battlefield. He is also one of the quickest moving of the Wise Men. Shigeo seems to have a bond with Marsilio.
10. Marsilio (Zaphkiel) - He is barbaric and loves a good challenge. Marsilio always flaunts his strength and is nearly unmatched in swordplay, using his gigantic sword to finish his enemies. He is called the Close-In Combat weapon.
So there you have it! The 10 Wise Men in a nutshell. There's so much more to them, but its impossible to cram it all here.
Sound cool to you? Join up and support them! Its domination time, baby!
